My name is Rachel and reinyday.com is my site. I've been dating my boyfriend Matthew (of rehrer.com) for over four years, and one of the myriad things I have discovered about him is that he really likes red wine, especially Mertiages. After a while I began urging him to start a wine journal where he could save lables along with his notes. He balked at the idea. At the beginning of 2001 I came up with the idea of an online wine journal. He still didn't like the idea. Then, shortly after his 26th birthday, he asked if I would create an online wine journal for him. I gladly agreed, and backdated the wines to his birthday: 19 October 2001. And thus you have this site. I was going to include a glossary in the site, but I believe the only word that people might not be familiar with is Meritage. My mother introduced Matthew and I to Meritages and he has really taken to them [I prefer a sweet wine such as a Reisling]. According to the Meritage Association, a Meritage is a 'hand-crafted wine blended from the traditional "noble" Bordeaux varietals. "Meritage" was coined to identify wines that represent the highest form of the winemaker's art, blending, and distinguish these wines from the more generic moniker "red table wine." A red Meritage is made from a blend of two or more of the following varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, St. Macaire, Gros Verdot, and Carmenere. No single variety may make up more than 90 percent of the blend.' |
